Dr. Van Vliet is interested in cardiovascular control mechanisms and, in particular, the regulation of blood pressure. His areas of investigation have included comparative physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, baroreceptors and baroreflexes, blood pressure variability, obesity, and autonomic mechanisms.
Dr. Van Vliet's current interests include the mathematical modeling and analysis of the ability of the cardiac baroreflex to sustain the balance between left ventricular oxygen supply and demand during changes in systolic arterial pressure.
Dr. Van Vliet's research has been supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Heart and Stroke Foundation, , ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University’s Medical Research Endowment Fund (MRF), and the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
