Experimental Design

The Confocal Imaging Unit is located in the the Core Research Facility, Room H1710 in the Health Sciences Centre. The unit operates on a fee-for-service basis and is available to both internal and external users.

Hours of Operation

Monday through Friday
9:00am-5:00pm. (Fall & Winter)
9:00am-4:30pm (Summer)

Equipment and Service

Zeiss LSM 900 with Airyscan 2 Inverted biological microscope 4 lasers: -405 nm -488 nm -561 nm -640 nm Objectives: 5X, 20X, 40X, and 63X (oil) Many capabilities including: confocal optical sectioning, live-cell imaging, multi-channel imaging, time-lapse, Z-stack, tile scanning, FRAP, FLIP, definitive focus, and spectral imaging User training is provided for a fee
Olympus Fluoview FV1000 laser scanning microscope Inverted biological microscope 6 lasers with SIM scanner           - 405 nm LD           - 488 nm Argon           - 515 nm Multi Argon           - 543 nm Green HeNe           - 568 nm Krypton/Argon           - 633 nm Red HeNe Objectives: 10X, 20X, 40X, and 60X (oil) Broad application support including: multi-colour imaging, co-localization, and live-cell imaging User training is provided for a fee
Olympus BX50WI microscope Upright biological microscope Equipped with an Olympus SC50 5-megapixel digital colour camera

Scheduling and Data Policies

• Instrument bookings can be made using an online booking system. Booking system access is provided once a user has completed training.
• A requisition is required at time of use.
• Users are responsible for removing data files at time of acquisition

Biosafety Guidelines

• For all biosafety guidelines refer to ������Ƶ University Biosafety Policies and Procedures Manual.
• All samples transported to the laboratory must be in a sealed container according to biosafety
• Laboratory coats and PPE must be worn at all times. 
• Please Note: Users must add room H1710 to their current Biosafety certificate to use the facility.
