Our Mainstage Series gives you the opportunity to hear performances from our internationally acclaimed faculty. Our Ensemble Series showcases the variety of exciting ensembles at the School of Music. In our Noon Series, you can enjoy free performances from the School of Music community during your lunch hour.

Mainstage Series: $30 (General) / $24 (Seniors) / $10 (Youth 13-30) / $5 (12 & under)

Ensemble Series: $24 (General) / $20 (Seniors) / $10 (Youth 13-30) / $5 (12 & under)

Noon Series: FREE

Concert 5-Pack: Get any five concert admissions for $100 (General) / $80 (Seniors). Concert 5-Packs are available at our D.F. Cook Recital Hall box office 30 minutes prior to a ticketed event in our concert series.

Free Ensemble Series tickets for junior high and high school students: Junior high and high school students are invited to attend any of our Ensemble Series concerts free of charge. Email music@mun.ca to receive a complimentary ticket. *Please note, a limited number of complimentary tickets are available per concert.

All ticket prices include fees. All concerts are general admission (no assigned seating). Tickets can be purchased online at the link below, by calling Ticket Pro at 1-888-311-9090, or at the door 30 minutes prior to performance. Online sales end one hour prior to showtime and all remaining tickets are sold at the door only.

Presented in partnership with 

James Ehnes, one of the world’s most renowned violinists, will perform in St. John’s for one-night-only during a tour across Canada in celebration of his 50th birthday. The winner of two Grammy Awards, three Gramophone Awards, and 12 JUNO Awards, Ehnes will be joined by celebrated pianist Andrew Armstrong. Together, they will perform a program including Brahms’ “Sonata No. 3,” Bartók’s “Rhapsody No. 1,” and the world premiere of Carmen Braden’s “Imaginal”.

Music at ������Ƶ professor Christine Carter (clarinet) joins forces with acclaimed Canadian musicians Pierre-Alain Bouvrette (cello), and Martin Karlíček (piano) for this trio program spanning the centuries. Canadian composer Patrick Cardy’s Tombeau begins the program with elegiac restraint and an atmosphere of reverence. From this quiet intensity, the mood shifts to Libby Larsen’s dramatic Trio Noir, conceived as a film-noir score that evokes a world of nocturnal mystery. The first half concludes with Robert Muczynski’s Fantasy Trio, whose rhythmic bite and bold gestures propel the music forward with energy and clarity. The program culminates in the lush harmonic language and lyricism of Alexander von Zemlinsky’s Trio, a crowning conclusion that reveals the late-Romantic richness linking Zemlinksy – Arnold Schoenberg’s only teacher – to an earlier tradition.

"Pianists at Play" is a compelling two-piano concert featuring the ������Ƶ University piano studio alongside their instructor, Dr. Madeline Hildebrand, offering a welcoming glimpse into the artistry, versatility, and collaborative spirit of its student musicians. Centred on Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals, brought to life with narration featuring Joe Argentino, the program unfolds as a vivid musical “menagerie” for two pianos, framed by the imaginative world of Amy Beach’s "Grandmother’s Garden" and the rhythmic brilliance of Gershwin’s "Three Preludes."

“Ritual and Resistance” takes a journey through pre- and post-war music of the Soviet Union. The program opens with Shostakovich’s first piano trio, a musical love letter written by the sixteen-year-old composer for his girlfriend. Khachaturian scholar Gayane Chebotarian’s piano trio is paired with Khachaturian’s popular clarinet trio. The concert concludes with Sofia Gubaidulina’s monumental piano quintet, performed by MUN students and faculty.
