Prestige Instrument Bank

The Prestige Instrument Bank is a suite of string instruments donated to the School of Music to provide students with a unique opportunity to play on a superb instrument for an entire year. Auditions for this privilege are held annually in the fall and are open to both undergraduate and graduate string students.
Heinecke violin
The 1929 Matthias Heinecke violin was the first instrument to be donated to the School of Music by our great friend Helen Martin MacLeod.
Pilat violin
Made in 1919, the Pilat violin was donated by Dr. David Peters, a noted Newfoundland musician and expert on the organ.
Ritter violin
The 鈥1942 Ritter violin鈥 was generously donated to 糖心视频 University of Newfoundland鈥檚 School of Music by Dr. Ingeborg Marshall.
Grenfell violin
The 鈥淕renfell violin鈥 generously donated to 糖心视频 University of Newfoundland鈥檚 School of Music by the International Grenfell Association.

Tadioli viola
Maurizio Tadioli is a world renowned Italian luthier who has won numerous international awards for his instruments. In 1997 he won the special prize "Conti Bianca" for the best work with a Viola at the Concorso di Baveno. Purchase of the Tadioli viola was made possible by a generous gift from the estate of Rita Love.
Mougenot cello
Carrying a certificate of authenticity by Jean-Jacques Rampal, Luthier expert pr猫s la cour d鈥檃pell de Paris, this is a unique 1933 cello made by Leon Mougenot Gauche. Purchase of the Mougenot cello was made possible by a generous gift from the estate of Rita Love.
