Recognized as 鈥渁 great musician鈥ull of feeling and colours鈥 by composer Jacques H茅tu, Dr. Tracy Anne Smith garners praise for her expressive performances, rich tonal palette, and musical control. Smith has performed and taught through her native Canada and in the United States, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Spain, and England.

Her solo CD, Lilac.Star.Bird, features Ying-Chen Kao鈥檚 Prix d鈥橢t茅-winning title track, dedicated to Smith. The Journal for the Guitar Foundation of America, Soundboard, praised Lilac.Star.Bird as 鈥渆xceedingly beautiful,鈥 and Minor7th lauded it as an 鈥渁bsolute success,鈥 citing her 鈥渕asterful playing鈥 and 鈥渋ncredible versatility as a guitarist.鈥

A founding member of ChromaDuo with Rob MacDonald, she regularly co-commissions, premieres, and records works by leading composers, including Sergio Assad, Leo Brouwer, Roland Dyens, Stephen Goss, Dale Kavanagh and Amy Brandon. The duo鈥檚 third Naxos CD will be released in 2024 and was supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.

Under the guidance of Manuel Barrueco, Smith completed her Doctorate at Peabody Conservatory, where she was awarded the Theodore Presser Prize. She holds a master鈥檚 degree from Yale and an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto.
