We are so happy you have chosen to study at ������Ƶ University of Newfoundland (St. John's Campus). Our team of advisors and student staff are here to help whether you need arrival information, or just a friendly chat. We can talk to you about arrivals, off-campus housing, health insurance, career options, immigration procedures and settling in to your campus life.

International students are an integral part of ������Ƶ University. The Internationalization Office (IO) is here to welcome you and provide support throughout your student journey at ������Ƶ. Whether you have questions or just want to say hello, our advisors are happy to chat with you. The International Student Advisors are available 9:00am – 4:00pm Monday – Friday (summer hours, closed 1 - 2 p.m.). You can also email your questions to the advisors at international@mun.ca.

 

 

Arrivals Form 

– St. John's Campus Students:  

To help us support your transition to life in Newfoundland and Labrador, all new international students are required to complete the. 

Even if your travel or housing plans are not yet finalized, we encourage you to submit the form as soon as you know you will be traveling to Canada to begin your studies at ������Ƶ University.

This allows us to start supporting you early and prepare for your arrival. If your plans change, you can update your information later by emailing us at arrivals@mun.ca. 

 

 

 

 *Grenfell Campus is located in the city of Corner Brook. The closest airport is Deer Lake Regional Airport YDF, located 700km away from St. John's.  If you are a Grenfell student, please contact gcinternational@mun.ca for assistance.

 

 

 

Welcome Information Sessions

Starting life in a new city and a new university comes with many questions. We're here to help you prepare. 

Our pre-arrival information sessions cover essential topics such as immigration, arrival and housing, health insurance, outreach and family support—all designed to help incoming international students feel confident and prepared for their transition to ������Ƶ. 

Each session will include practical information and a live Q&A segment, providing an excellent opportunity to connect with knowledgeable advisors, get answers to your questions, and feel prepared before you arrive.

  

 

 

Arrival Peer Support Program

Starting life in a new country comes with many questions and adjustments. The Arrival Peer Support Program connects incoming international students with student volunteers who have firsthand experience settling into life in Newfoundland and Labrador, providing personalized support, local knowledge, and a welcoming introduction to their new community. 

 

 

 

 

SIN & MCP Clinics at the IO 

We are excited to share that representatives from Service Canada and the MCP Office will once again be on site to help you get set up for the semester ahead. Immigration Advisors from the Internationalization Office will also be available to connect with new students and share information about the immigration support services available throughout your studies at ������Ƶ.

These clinics provide a convenient way to access essential services and complete important arrival tasks as you begin your studies at ������Ƶ.

Join us to apply for your SIN (Social Insurance Number) and MCP (Medical Care Plan), and even open a bank account—all in one convenient location at the IO. Simply bring the required documents with you. 

Please bring the following ORIGINAL documents:

• Passport and
• Study permit (with remarks stating “May work…” or “May accept employment…”)
• Open work permit for spouse/partners (only if applicable)
• Application form (available at site) 
  

 

For MCP application: 

 Please bring physical PHOTOCOPIES of all required documents. This is very important—without them, your application may not be completed during the clinic, and you could experience delays.   

• Passport, 
• Study Permit,
• Enrollment Verification Letter, and
• Application form (available at site)

*If you are applying with your dependents, please see to see the documents required. 

 

  To open a bank account:

• A valid piece of government issued photo ID (e.g. your passport)
• Study/work permit 
• Access to a device with email to receive the e-sign package

 

 

Listserv

The Internationalization Office sends out a weekly listserv to all international students. The Listserv is an email which contains a list of important university information, upcoming events happening on campus and in the city, and  job opportunities. To receive the listserv, please send an email to international@mun.ca.
