This Scholarship was established by the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) St. John's, an organization committed to promoting equality for women and girls. A Scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student in the School of Social Work who identifies as a woman, and who is enrolled full-time in any masters or doctoral program in Social Work at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. Preference will be given to a student who has graduated from a high school in Newfoundland and Labrador. The recipients must meet the minimum academic requirements.

Students must apply and submit an application to the School of Social Work. Please check with the School of Social Work for the internal deadline. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Deputy Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Dean, School of Social Work.

Awarded annually to a full-time student in the master's program at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University's School of Social Work. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for a scholarship as defined by the University. Master students must apply through the School of Social Work to be considered for this scholarship. A recommendation will be forwarded to the Deputy Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies.

Awarded annually to a full-time student in their graduating year in the Master of Social Work program who demonstrates the value of collaborative engagement with other health and social science student(s) in the advancement of public policy by presenting at health or social work conferences. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for an award as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. Students must contact the School of Social Work regarding the details to be considered for the scholarship. A recommendation will be forwarded to the Dean of Graduate Studies.

This award was established in special memory of social worker Edwin Riggs (1971-2024) by his wife Kenda Riggs and their children Madison and Keegan Riggs. Edwin was an alumnus of ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland, completing his BA in 1995, BSW in 2006, and MSW in 2019. Edwin was a hardworking, loyal, selfless person, who always put others before himself. Although he loved his family beyond measure, he equally loved the social work profession and doing whatever he could to help others. Edwin believed that compassion for others is one of the most important things needed in this world, and he devoted his life to helping so many others. Through his gentle, fun-loving, and caring way, he helped heal the hearts of many others, especially those facing life adversities. Edwin always helped others find brightness in the darkness. Edwin strived to make the world a better place by helping others - for this he is and will always be our Heart Hero. Valued at $500, this award will be granted annually to a full-time or part-time graduate student enrolled in the Master of Social Work program who demonstrates excellence (for example, exceptional kindness, empathy, advocacy and caring for others) in their field internship. Preference will be given to a student who demonstrates a special interest in child and youth mental health. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for an award as defined by the University.
