This Award was first established by Cy Couturier in 2004. An Aquaculture Scientist and the Chair of Aquaculture Programs and the Marine Institute and ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University for almost two decades, Cyr has received many awards for his contributions to education, research and development in sustainable aquaculture. He has held numerous positions on volunteer boards related to sustainable rural and economic development across Canada, many times as president of organizations that engage in sustainable development of aquatic farming. His most recent appointment has been to the Board of the Kurt Grinnell Scholarship Foundation that enables access to aquaculture education and training for Indigenous North Americans. As accomplished as his career has been, one of his greatest achievements is the connection with his students and their success. he has mentored hundreds of post-graduates, junior and high school students and adult learners in fisheries, aquaculture, and environmental science programs. Through international projects, he has assisted hundreds of seafood farmers, many Indigenous, in their own countries in applying sustainable aquaculture practices in order to advance their livelihoods and wellbeing. Valued at $1,500 annually, the Award will be granted to a part-time or full-time student entering the Graduate Diploma in Marine Studies (Aquaculture) or Masters of Marine Studies (Aquaculture) programs at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. Preference will be given to an Indigenous student. Indigenous students can demonstrate Indigeneity according to University guidelines at the time of application. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for an award as defined by the University.

The award will be awarded by the Deputy Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Marine Institute Scholarship Committee.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time student from Newfoundland and Labrador studying in the School of Fisheries at the Fisheries and Marine Institute. First priority is a student enrolled in the Master of Marine Studies (Fisheries Resource Management). Second priority is a student enrolled in the Master of Science in Fisheries Science (Fisheries Science and Technology) whose research is focused on sustainability, resource development or a line of research to enhance fisheries outreach or education in rural NL. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for a scholarship as defined by the Fisheries and Marine Institute of ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. This scholarship will be awarded by the Dean, School of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Marine Institute Scholarship Committee. This scholarship requires applicants to complete an application form.

Students must apply through the School of Fisheries at the Fisheries and Marine Institute. Once a recipient is selected, a recommendation will be forwarded to the Deputy Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies.

Awarded annually to a full-time graduate student studying beyond their first semester in a research-based masters program at the Marine Institute. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for scholarship standing as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland.

This Scholarship was established by a generous donation from Dr. Gary Kachanoski, 12th President and Vice-Chancellor of ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University, together with a circle of friends, family, and colleagues of Dr. Heather Carnahan. This memorial endowment honors her visionary leadership and pioneering research that paved the way for expanding knowledge in the area of human factors and safety with the view to advancing working conditions. Her career spanned over 30 years as a researcher - studying how people learn, develop, and become experts in the fine motor skills needed to be fishermen, mariners, and surgeons. In 2021 Dr. Carnahan was appointed the Lockheed Martin Industrial Research Chair in Simulation and Learning at the Marine Institute, leading a team of graduate students studying the effective design and use of simulators as learning tools for maritime industries. In 2022 Dr. Carnahan was recognized as University Research Professor, the most prestigious award ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University gives to faculty for research, consistently high level of scholarship, and graduate supervision and mentoring. She was the first researcher at the Marine Institute to receive this award. Valued at a portion of the income on the endowment, it will be awarded annually to a graduate student involved in Ocean Safety Research in the School of Maritime Studies at the Marine Institute. Preference will be given to an international student. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for scholarship standing as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland.

Awarded annually to one graduate student enrolled in a graduate program at the Fisheries and Marine Institute. The applicant must demonstrate outstanding leadership throughout the course of their career and Marine Institute studies, through academic work, professional work placements, and community involvement. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for a scholarship as outlined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. This scholarship was established by a generous donation from the Fisheries Council of Canada. Valued at $1,500 annually, the scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student (Masters or PhD) in the Fisheries Science (Stock Assessment) program at the Fisheries and Marine Institute of ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for scholarship standing as defined by the University.

Students will need to submit an application to the Fisheries and Marine Institute for this scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded by the Deputy Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Marine Institute's Scholarship Committee.

This Award was established by a generous donation from Kevin Anderson who has a long history with the Marine Institute; he served as the Head, School of Fisheries and as a part-time instructor. Valued at a portion of the income on the endowment, it will be awarded annually to a full-time international student enrolled in any school of fisheries graduate program at Marine Institute, including graduate diplomas and advanced diplomas. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate one or more of the following: outstanding research related to fisheries or ocean sustainability; community engagement or outreach in the field of fisheries; or involvement in innovation, policy, or applied practices that contribute to the advancement of the fisheries sector. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for an award as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland.

This scholarship was established by a generous donation from Ed Durnford in memory of his brother and sister, Ross and Irene Durnford, who both passed away in 2022. Given Ed's long and successful career as Instructor, Program Chair, Coordinator of Programs and Head of the School of Fisheries, the Scholarship honours his siblings while celebrating academically high achieving School of Fisheries students. Valued at a portion of the income on the endowment, it will be awarded annually to a full-time graduate student in any program administered by the School of Fisheries at the Fisheries and Marine Institute of ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for scholarship standing as defined by the University.
