This award was created to help defray travel cost incurred while presenting a paper on current thesis research at a national or international conference. Awarded annually to a full-time or part-time graduate student who is currently enrolled in one of the Faculty of Medicine's Community Health masters or doctoral programs. Preference will be given to an International student in one of the qualifying programs.

Students must apply and submit an application to the Faculty of Medicine. The award will be granted by the Deputy Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies, Faculty of Medicine.

Awarded to a full-time graduate student in the first year of a two-year master's program in the Faculty of Medicine. Preference will be given to students interested in remaining in NL after graduation (although this is not required). Students must have scholarship standing. Applicants must apply to and submit the application to the Office of Research, Faculty of Medicine. Once the recipient is selected, a recommendation is forwarded to the Dean of Graduate Studies.

Awarded annually to any full-time graduate student doing Health Service Research at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University. The recipient will be selected on scholarship standing through a best paper, best thesis or a best research project. Students must apply and submit an application to the Office of Research and Graduate Studies, Faculty of Medicine. A recommendation will be forwarded to the Dean of Graduate Studies.

This scholarship was established by the Griffiths' family in memory of their father, Keith Griffiths. Valued at $1,500 annually, the scholarship will be awarded to a full-time or part-time graduate student who is pursuing a research program in stroke and neurological issues related to stroke in the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Nursing or the School of Pharmacy at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. Preference will be given to graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for scholarship standing as defined by the University.

Students will need to apply to the Office of Research and Graduate Studies (Medicine) to be considered for this scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded by the Deputy Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies (Medicine).

Annually awarded in perpetuity to a full-time or part-time graduate student (M.Sc. or PhD) in a biomedical science graduate program, Faculty of Medicine, who has completed a minimum of three semesters and is conducting research in the field of human genetics. Applicants must demonstrate research leadership and creativity, as well as strong academic citizenship. Preference will be given to a student who exemplifies all-round excellence in scholarship and service, in memory of Dr. Green who embodied these qualities. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for a scholarship as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland.

Students should contact the Office of Research and Graduate Studies, Faculty of Medicine regarding the application process. This scholarship will be awarded by the Deputy Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies upon the recommendation of the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies, Faculty of Medicine.

Awarded annually to a full-time or part-time graduate student engaged in genetics research in the Faculty of Medicine on the basis of academic excellence. Preference will be given to students engaged in genetic research associated with the study of cardiology. Preference will also be given to students enrolled in the PhD program; however, if there are no suitable candidates in this program, students enrolled in the Master's Program will be considered. Financial need of candidates may be considered where possible. To be eligible, candidates must meet the minimum academic requirements for a graduate scholarship as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland.

Students should contact the Office of Research and Graduate Studies, Faculty of Medicine regarding the application process. Once a recipient is selected, a recommendation will be forwarded to the Deputy Provost and Dean, School of Graduate Studies.

Awarded to a first year graduate learner in the Faculty of Medicine who is completing any thesis-based program in the Division of Population Health and Applied Health Sciences who does not have adequate funding (by way of scholarship, fellowship, or faculty research monies) to qualify for full-time status within their selected program. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for an award as defined by the University.

All incoming candidates accepted for the MSc and PhD programs in the Division of Community Health and Humanities will be considered. An application is required and students must apply to the Faculty of Medicine. The award will be granted by Deputy Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies, Faculty of Medicine.

Valued at a portion of the income on the endowment, it will be awarded annually to a full-time graduate student pursing a Master of Public Health who has demonstrated a significant commitment to public health. Preference will be given to learners who focus on issues related to the natural or built environment, climate change or 'One Health'. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for an award as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland.

Students must apply and submit an application to the Faculty of Medicine to be considered for this award. This award will be granted by Deputy Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies (Medicine).

This Award was established by a generous donation from Dr. Daniel Shu and Mrs. Maxine Shu (Bragg). Dr Shu, Class of 1973, dedicated 50 years as a family doctor in St. John's and in Coquitlam, British Columbia. Over his career, he has been involved in approximately 300 phase II and phase III clinical trials. Mrs. Maxine Shu (Bragg), originally from Grand Falls-Windsor, graduated from Grace Hospital's nursing program in 1971. She worked as a delivery room and fertility nurse in St. John's and at Vancouver General Hospital. Together, they believe that supporting medical research will greatly benefit the Faculty of Medicine at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland and the field of medicine as a whole. Valued at a portion of the income on the endowment, the Award will be granted annually to a full-time graduate student (Masters or PhD) in the Faculty of Medicine to support travel toa conference to present their research. A Candidate will be selected based on an abstract or paper to be presented at the conference. In the event that there are no candidates available the following will be considered for selection: course work, research work, and other related accomplishments as determined by the selection committee. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for an award as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland.

Students must submit their application to the Faculty of Medicine. This award will be granted by theDeputy Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies (Medicine).

This scholarship was established by Mrs. Cecilia Sutton-Finney in honour of her sister, Ms. Winnifred (Winnie) Sutton, who grew up in the rural Newfoundland and Labrador community of Trepassey. Winnie inherited a love of cooking and baking from a young age and has spent her entire career in the service/hospitality field. After graduating high school Winnie moved to St. John's to start her career. Winnie raised two daughters but her first born, Amanda, was diagnosed with a disability with no known cure and sadly passed in her 23rd year. Winnie continues to reside and work in St. John's. Valued at $1,000 annually, the scholarship will be awarded to a full-time graduate learner enrolled in a Faculty of Medicine program at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland whose research is in the field of neurology or neuroscience. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for scholarship standing as defined by the University.

Students must apply and submit an application to the Faculty of Medicine. The scholarship will be awarded by the Deputy Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies, Faculty of Medicine.

Awarded annually to a full-time graduate student in the Faculty of Medicine whose research supports the discipline of pediatrics, with a preference for pediatric oncology. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for a scholarship as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University.

Awarded to a doctoral student in the Division of BioMedical Sciences during the final year of their PhD program. The award recognizes leadership in biomedical research, combined with a desire to continue in their research beyond graduate school. The doctoral student must have successfully passed their written and oral comprehensive exam, is researching an original idea that will have a positive impact on the community, and has demonstrated innovative, high quality biomedical research that will improved human health and quality of life. Doctoral students must apply through the Faculty of Medicine to be considered for the award, and a recommendation will be forwarded to the Dean, School of Graduate Studies.

This bursary will be awarded annually to a full-time or part-time graduate student at the Faculty of Medicine on the basis of financial need and academic excellence. To be eligible, students must have completed at least two semesters of study in a Master's program. The recipient must have demonstrated financial need as well as meet the minimum academic requirements for a bursary as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. Students must apply through the Research and Graduate Studies Office in the Faculty of Medicine. Once a recipient is selected, a recommendation is forwarded to the Dean, School of Graduate Studies.

Awarded annually to a master's student and one to a doctoral student in the Faculty of Medicine. It is awarded based on the the candidate's community involvement and participation in extracurricular activities. Students must apply and submit an application to the Office of Research and Graduate Studies, Faculty of Medicine. A recommendation will be forwarded to the Dean of Graduate Studies.
