ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ

This Bursary was established by members of the Williams and Verge family to lighten the fiscal burden of substitute teachers and their families when students decide to further their education at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University. Valued at $1,000 per year, it will be awarded annually to a part-time graduate student enrolled in their first year of a Master's program in the Faculty of Education at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. Candidates must be active volunteers in the community. Preference will be given to a student who does not hold a full-time employed position at the time of eligibility. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and meet the minimum academic requirements for a bursary as defined by the University.

Students must apply through and submit an application to the Faculty of Education to be considered for this bursary. Please check with the Faculty of Education for their internal deadline. The Bursary will be awarded by the Deputy Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Dean, Faculty of Education.

Valued at a portion of the income on the endowment, it will be awarded annually to the student entering a full-time Master's program in Education with the highest average of the last 90 Undergraduate credit hours. The recipient must have graduated from a high school in Newfoundland and Labrador. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for a scholarship as defined by the University. This scholarship will be awarded by Deputy Provost Dean of the School of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Dean, Faculty of Education. Students must apply through and submit an application to the Faculty of Education to be considered for this scholarship. Please check with the Faculty of Education for their internal deadline. Once the recipient has been selected, a recommendation will be forwarded to the School of Graduate Studies.

Awarded annually on the basis of academic standing in a first ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ Education degree to a full-time graduate student with a specialization in Reading or Language Arts. If no graduate student qualifies for the award, it may be awarded to an undergraduate student. Instalments of $1,000 each will be awarded in two successive academic terms and the scholarships are renewable for two years provided first-class standing is maintained. Students must apply and submit an application to the Faculty of Education to be considered for the scholarship. The application consists of a cover letter, a CV, a one page statement of research, two letters of reference and a current transcript. The application package should be submitted to s.keats@mun.ca in Education. Please check with the Faculty of Education for their internal deadline. A recommendation will be forwarded to the Dean of Graduate Studies.

This Scholarship was established by the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) St. John's, an organization committed to promoting equality for women and girls. A Scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student in the Faculty of Education who identifies as a woman, and who is enrolled full-time in the masters or doctoral program in the Faculty of Education at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. Preference will be given to a student who has graduated from a high school in Newfoundland and Labrador. The recipients must meet the minimum academic requirements. Students must apply through and submit an application to the Faculty of Education to be considered for this scholarship. Please check with the Faculty of Education for their internal deadline. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Deputy Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Dean, Faculty of Education.

Awarded annually to a full-time graduate student of the Master of Education (Counselling Psychology) program. Preference will be given to a student who is a dedicated advocate for a wide range of individuals both personally and professionally, who embodies Brad's characteristics of connecting and fostering community engagement in an inclusive, empathetic and dedicated manner, who overcame significant obstacles, and who demonstrates financial need. Students must submit an application to the Faculty of Education. Please check with the Faculty of Education for their internal deadline. The application consists of a CV, two references and a two page letter outlining their qualifications and why they are applying for the Brad Cheeseman Award in Education. The award will be granted by the Deputy Provost and Dean, School of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Dean, Faculty of Education.

Awarded annually to a full-time student in the Faculty of Education for outstanding research. The award is made on the basis of an application by a student or nomination by the student's supervisor. The application or nomination may take the form of a thesis or project proposal, but preferably be supported by an explanation of why the work involved is particularly meritorious. Students must apply through and submit an application to the Faculty of Education to be considered for the scholarship. Please check with the Faculty of Education for the internal deadline. A recommendation will be forwarded to the Dean of Graduate Studies.

Awarded annually to a student who has graduated from a Newfoundland high school and is enrolled full-time in the Counselling and Psychology program in the Faculty of Education. Preference will be given where financial need is demonstrated and must meet the minimum academic requirements for a scholarship. Students must apply and submit an application to the Faculty of Education to be considered for the scholarship. Please check with the Faculty of Education for their internal deadline. A recommendation will be forwarded to the Dean of Graduate Studies.

Awarded annually to a full-time graduate student in the Faculty of Education who is in need of funding to travel to an education-related conference and/or to present a research paper. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for an award. Students must apply through and submit an application to the Graduate Office, Faculty of Education. Please check with the Faulty of Education for their internal deadline. A recommendation will be forwarded to the Dean of Graduate Studies.

This Award was established by generous donations from family, friends, colleagues, and students of Dr. David Dibbon, Dean of the Faculty of Education at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland (2008-2010), to commemorate his life and work. Dr. Dibbon was committed to research focused on improving schools and school systems in Newfoundland and Labrador as well as elsewhere. He had great dreams of what public education could be and was passionate about enabling schools to become better places for students to learn and for teachers to work. He was a transformational leader and change agent committed to collaborative partnerships and teamwork. He had a gift of innovative thinking, a visionary spirit, and the tenacious patience required to successfully lead meaningful education reform.

Valued at a portion of the income on the endowment, the Award will be granted annually to a full-time or part-time graduate student enrolled in any Master's program in the Faculty of Education at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University who demonstrates leadership qualities. Preference will be given to a student who graduated from a high school in Newfoundland and Labrador. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for an award as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University. Students must apply and submit an application to the Faculty of Education to be considered for the scholarship. Please check with the Faculty of Education for the internal deadline. This Award will be granted by the Deputy Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Dean, Faculty of Education.

Valued at a portion of the income on the endowment, the award will be granted annually to a full-time graduate student in the Master of Education Reading Development and Instruction program. If there is no eligible full-time students in a given year, then it will be granted to a part-time student. Preference will be given to a student who has graduated from a high school in Newfoundland and Labrador. The recipient must meet the minimum academic requirements for a scholarship as defined by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University of Newfoundland. Students must apply to the Faculty of Education to be considered for this award. Please check with the Faculty of Education for their internal deadline. It will be awarded by the Deputy Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Dean, Faculty of Education.

Awarded annually to a full-time student enrolled in a graduate degree program in the Faculty of Science or Education. For the 2025/2026 scholarship year, it will be awarded to the Faculty of Education. Selection will be based on excellence in teaching demonstrated through a strong ability to communicate the subject matter being taught, providing learners with a comprehensive and coherent understanding of the subject matter, and an aptitude for generating learners' enthusiasm for the subjects. The award will be rotated annually between the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Education. Students are only eligible to receive the award once.

Eligible students should submit to their Faculty a one-page letter of application, a curriculum vitae and two letters of recommendation (one of which should be from the student's direct academic supervisor). Please check with the appropriate Faculty for their internal deadline. The award will be granted by the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the respective Deans of the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Education.
