Research Staff
Lab Manager and Research Assistant | Ocean Sciences
Research: I hold a Master鈥檚 degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and currently serve as the Lab Manager and Research Assistant in the AEON lab. My responsibilites include coordinating day-to-day laboratory operations, delivering safety training for incoming students, managing procurement of lab supplies, and ensuring that all equipment is properly calibrated and maintained. I also provide hands-on support to students in conducting experiments and data analysis across a range of research areas, including crude oil characterization, microplastic pollution, and carbon cycle studies.
Science Technician | Ocean Sciences
Research: I recently completed my MSc in Marine Biology at MUN, where I conducted research in Microplastic Sedimentation, under the supervision of Dr. Passow. I am now working in the AEON lab as a Science Technician, focusing on microplastic analysis and protocol development for microplastic detection. This work aims to improve sample preparation and data interpretation of marine microplastics.
Research Assistant for Biological Oceanography | Ocean Sciences
Research: I hold a PhD in Science from the University of Bremen in Germany. Currently I am investigating the effects of microplastics on phytoplankton and marine snow. My research focuses particularly on whether different microplastic shapes (e.g., fibers vs. fragments) and types (e.g., polypropylene vs. polyester) have different effects on phytoplankton growth and the sinking of marine snow.
