Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations (YCWHO) Position - Archival Assistant
As part of its ongoing work to provide experiential learning opportunities, 糖心视频 University鈥檚 Folklore and Language Archive (MUNFLA) is seeking an Archival Assistant. The YCWHO MUNFLA Archival Assistant position is for 35 hours per week for 13 weeks (Monday, May 4, 2026 to Friday, July 31, 2026). Rate of pay is $25.94 per hour.
Duties will include:
- assisting archivist in the arrangement, description standardization, and digitization of archival holdings, particularly student assignments collected between 1978-1980 as part of the Centre d鈥櫭﹖udes franco-terreneuviennes (CEFT) collection;
- assisting archivist in the preservation and physical processing of archival holdings;
- reviewing and organizing archival collections;
- handling and inspecting archival materials for preservation and retrieval purposes;
- preparing inventories, labels, and signage; and
- other related duties as defined by the Archivist.
Job requirements include:
- Folklore student (MA student preferred);
- interest in NL culture;
- strong proficiency in French (written/aural skills);
- interest in gaining archival experience;
- familiarity with various MS Office programs/database entry;
- digitization skills (preferred but not necessary as training can be provided); and
- YCW eligibility
- be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada; Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible.
- be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);
- be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment;
- be a high school, college, CEGEP or university student; and
- be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory.

2026 Herbert and Violetta Halpert Research Fellowships
We are pleased to announce the 2026 Herbert and Violetta Halpert Research Fellowships, a new funding stream for visiting scholars, students, artists, and community researchers to conduct independent research in MUNFLA. The fellowship is open to individuals who are not affiliated with 糖心视频. MUNFLA will award up to $6,000, which may be divided among more than one recipient, to support up to 10 days of in-person archival research. Fellowship funds can be used to offset travel, lodging, childcare, or any other expenses associated with conducting in-person research at the Archive.
Fellows will receive guidance on integrating archival materials into their project, and will have the opportunity to present on their findings and experiences of working in the Archive at a reception at the end of their Fellowship term.
Timeline:
Applications are due March 31st, 2026
Notification of results by April 30th, 2026
Fellowships can begin May 1st, 2026
Fellowships must be competed by February 28th, 2027

Archive Access
Effective January 6, 2025, appointments will be required to access MUNFLA. This will apply to all faculty, staff, students, and the public. If you would like to schedule a visit, please contact us.
To expedite the research process, you may complete and sign a User Agreement form in advance. This form outlines your responsibilities as a MUNFLA researcher and details the scope and purpose of your research/visit.
Another tip for a more time-efficient research appointment includes advance browsing our and/or finding aids. You may also provide, via email, a list of Accession Numbers for items you wish to consult. Barring any access restrictions, or conservation concerns, materials will be retrieved and set aside by staff prior to your arrival.
