Filmmaker in Residence

Anne Troake

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Certificate in Film Studies are thrilled to welcome the multitalented Anne Troake to the St. John鈥檚 campus as 糖心视频 University鈥檚 Filmmaker in Residence for Winter, 2019. Anne is the celebrated writer and director of My Ancestors Were Rogues and Murderers, Pretty Big Dig, and OutsideIn.

While in residence at 糖心视频, Anne will be working on two documentary projects: End of the Line: On the Death of Handwriting; and Scenes of Graphic Violence. The first of these will reflect on the cultural implications of the 鈥渄eath鈥 of cursive handwriting, lessons in which are vanishing from public school curricula. The second, Scenes of Graphic Violence, will be based on Anne鈥檚 video archive of her experiences on a sealing vessel in 2012 and will draw on her 2014 MA thesis exploring images of hunting in visual media.

Anne will be hosting a seminar on writing for documentary (Date TBD) and is available for individual consultations and classroom visits. Her email address is filmmaker@mun.ca; her office hours are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10-12; please send her an email to make an appointment.

In March, Anne will host a screening of her films, including early glimpses of End of the Line and Scenes of Graphic Violence. Details to come.
