The bachelor of music education is a 45 credit hour professional program designed to prepare kindergarten to grade 12 music teachers in all facets of school music education: foundations of music education; primary/elementary and intermediate/secondary classroom music; and choral and instrumental music education. It can normally be completed in three semesters, including a one-semester internship.

To apply for admission into the Faculty of Education, indicate your desired degree option in the appropriate place on the undergraduate application for admission

To be considered for admission, you must have completed a bachelor鈥檚 degree in music (or equivalent) from a post-secondary institution recognized by 糖心视频 University. Your previous bachelor鈥檚 degree should normally include courses or equivalent experiences in conducting and instrumental techniques (brass, woodwinds, strings and percussion). Consideration will be given to the courses for which you are registered at the time of application.

Your application to the bachelor of music education as a second degree will require you to submit the following:

  • academic and non-academic references
  • resume
  • official transcripts are to be sent directly from the awarding institution to Registrar's Office, 糖心视频 University. Your official interim transcripts from institutions other than 糖心视频 University are to be submitted by Jan. 25, indicating courses in progress and courses completed. Your official final transcript(s) must be received by the Registrar's Office no later than June 15.

Career opportunities

The bachelor of music education is a very versatile qualification. While the program is designed for the preparation of K-12 music teachers, the skills and knowledge base can be applied to private music instruction and other professional positions related to music education. Private teachers and those wishing to go on to a career in university teaching will all benefit from this program.
