������Ƶ's Department of Political Science is pleased to welcome a new member to our community, Dr. Angela Carter, who joins us as an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair nominee. 

Born in Corner Brook and raised in Conception Bay, Dr. Angela Carter has spent her professional career presenting environmental research findings on the global stage. In 2021, she co-authored the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT), which was endorsed by 2,100 academics from 81 countries and presented to the United Nations General Assembly. She has also engaged and collaborated with esteemed organizations like the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and the Canadian Public Health Association as part of the international Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change. This past May, she was also invited by the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy, Dan Jørgensen, to appear on the 

 Here in Canada, Dr. Carter has provided insight to Canada’s Office of the Auditor General and is regularly invited to appear as a House of Commons witness on issues of climate policy. Additionally, her book “” was the recipient of the 2021 Donald Smiley Prize for the best book in a field relating to the study of government and politics in Canada.

 Currently, Dr. Carter is a cabinet-appointed member of Newfoundland and Labrador’s . She also recently served as a co-facilitator of the Peoples Recovery (a response to the Premier’s Economic Recovery Team’s 2021 “Big Reset” report) and as a co-organizer of the Just Transition NL coalition. 

Dr. Carter completed a Ph.D. and Master of Arts at Cornell University’s Department of Government (Political Science), where she was a Fulbright Scholar, as well as a Master of Arts from Carleton University’s Institute of Political Economy. She was previously an Associate Professor at the Balsillie School of International Affairs and the Department of Political Science at the University of Waterloo. She is also a Senior Associate at the .

While at ������Ƶ, she will continue her research on equitable transitions from fossil fuels.
