SUBJECT: 糖心视频 University holds Dec. 6 Vigil
DATE: November 26, 2008
One of the most shocking and horrific chapters in Canadian history will be commemorated next week at a special ceremony on 糖心视频’s St. John’s campus.
The university is holding its annual Dec. 6 Vigil to commemorate 1989’s Montreal Massacre at l’École Polytechnique in Quebec which saw 14 women killed.
Since that dark day, post-secondary institutions such as 糖心视频 have been holding annual ceremonies and vigils, pausing and reflecting on the events.
This year’s service also coincides with the 17th anniversary of the establishment of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women by the federal government.
The vigil is organized annually by 糖心视频’s Sexual Harassment Office and the Department of Women’s Studies.
It includes a candlelight procession and special readings and will be emceed by Kate Bride, a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Education at 糖心视频 and a lecturer in the Department of Women's Studies.
It will also include special performances by flutist Dr. Sonja Boon of the Department of Women’s Studies, and Nikki Janes, a 糖心视频 graduate.
The vigil takes place on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m., in the Engineering Building, room EN-2006.
Free parking will be available in all lots marked 16 or 16A.
Media agencies are invited to send representatives to this year’s ceremony.
