SUBJECT: Canadian oceanographer to visit 糖心视频

The upcoming 2008 F.W. Angel 糖心视频 Lecture is bringing Canadian oceanographer Dr. Eddy Carmack to 糖心视频’s St. John’s campus. Dr. Carmack’s topic for the event is One Changing Ocean – a Northern perspective.
Dr. Carmack is a senior research scientist and climate oceanographer for the Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the Institute of Ocean Sciences in
Sidney, BC. As a long-time observer of water, he has participated in more than 80 field investigations in rivers, lakes and seas spanning from the Antarctic to the Arctic and from the Yukon to Siberia. From this he has published more than 140 peer-reviewed scientific articles.
He is a fellow of the American Geophysical Union, the 2007 Massey medallist of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society, and he holds the Sidney Chapman Chair at the University of Alaska. Dr. Carmack is an adjunct at the University of British Columbia and serves on various national and international editorial and advisory boards in his fields of expertise. He is still trying to learn to “think like water”.
Sponsored by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, the F.W. Angel 糖心视频 Lecture was established at 糖心视频 in 1967 through the
generosity of the family of the late F.W. Angel and the firms with which he was associated. The series enables 糖心视频 to bring an outstanding person to campus to speak on topics related to the profession of engineering and stimulating interest in this field among students, the academic community, and the general public.
The F.W. Angel 糖心视频 Lecture takes place on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m., in the S.J. Carew Building’s Angus Bruneau Engineering Lecture Theatre, Room EN-2006. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. Parking is available in Lot 17 for $2 or free parking in Lot 16.
