The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science annually recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions.

The Dean’s Awards recognize individual excellence among faculty and staff, both technical and administrative. The awards also help faculty build national and international recognition.

Recipients have been nominated by their peers. While the process is overseen by an internal awards committee, all recipients are approved by the Dean.

The following individuals received Dean’s Award for 2022:

Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence

Caroline Koenig, a laboratory instructor for Engineering One, the faculty’s first-year studies for new undergraduate students, received the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to teaching in one or more of the following areas: teaching effectiveness, teaching innovation and/or teaching scholarship and leadership.

Dean’s Award for Research Excellence

Dr. Stephen Butt, a professor in the Department of Process Engineering, was the recipient of the Dean’s Award for Research Excellence. The award recognizes faculty members for outstanding research accomplishments and significant contributions to advancing the faculty’s national and international reputation for research excellence.

Dean’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Supervision

The Dean’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Supervision was awarded to Dr. Sam Nakhla, an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. The award recognizes and encourages excellence in graduate student supervision.

Dean’s Award for Outstanding Academic Service

Dr. Jonathan Anderson, an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, received the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Academic Service. The award recognizes exceptional contributions of academic staff members (ASM and ASM-CE).

Dean’s Award for Exemplary Service

The Dean’s Award for Exemplary Service went to Nicole Parisi, a program administrator in the Office of the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies); and Dr. Adedoyin Odukoya, a grants facilitation officer in the faculty’s Office of Research. The award recognizes exceptional contributions of non-academic staff members who always make an extra effort, contribute significantly to the success of the faculty and consistently provide outstanding support and assistance.

Dean’s Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Faculty went to Dr. John Molgaard and Andrew Kendrick.
