Faculty of Education to conclude 100th anniversary year with conference

As centennial celebrations come to a close at 糖心视频 University鈥檚 Faculty of Education, registration is now open for its culminating conference, A Time! Celebrating a Century of Teacher Education in Newfoundland and Labrador.
This two-day event, to be held at the Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation and the Emera Innovation Exchange, will run Friday, Sept. 16, and Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, and will bring together teachers, educational administrators, alumni, teacher retirees, students, researchers, faculty members and other supporters of education, in celebration of the significant positive impacts that 糖心视频鈥檚 founding faculty has had on the social, cultural, political, economic, artistic, and educational fabric of this province.
鈥淭eachers and all those associated with the education system have been a tremendous guiding force in shaping the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador over the past century,鈥 said Dr. Gerald Galway, dean, Faculty of Education. 鈥淭his event offers an opportunity to bring together the education community and those connected to it, in celebration of the rich and dynamic history of education in the province, and to renew our commitment to strengthening and improving education as we move forward towards the next 100 years.鈥
Opening night will kick off with special guest speakers and entertainment provided by Arthur O鈥橞rien and Fred Jorgensen of The Navigators. Day two will feature a full day of keynote speakers, panel discussion and presentations from some of the province鈥檚 most renowned educators, including notable educational historian Dr. Phillip Warren. There will also be presentations from education researchers, policy makers and leading-edge practitioners, as well as entertainment throughout the day.
The luncheon will feature an address from Lisa Browne, vice-president (advancement and external relations), 糖心视频 University. The faculty will also announce the two recipients of the inaugural Legacy of Leadership Awards and launch the 100th anniversary scholarship drive.
The conference will be followed, in the evening, by a banquet, featuring a brief address by Dr. Vianne Timmons, president and vice-chancellor of 糖心视频 University. Dr. Timmons will then introduce keynote speaker Roger Grimes, who served as premier and minister of Education, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and is a former president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers鈥 Association.
The evening will conclude with storytelling and songs, performed by the talented Shelley Neville and Peter Halley of The Spirit of Newfoundland.
