Dr. Kathryn A. O. Simonsen

Dr. Simonsen鈥檚 research is in the general area of Greek history and historiography of the archaic and classical periods. She is interested in the development of the Greek polis, early Greek navies and naval warfare. More broadly she is interested in ancient ships and sea-faring, ancient trade (both Greek and Near Eastern) as well as contacts between the various cultures around the Mediterranean.

More recently she has focussed on Herodotus, Thucydides and the fragmentary Greek historians, how they related to each other and to earlier authors.
